WGE Site Construction Capabilities Examples
1. BSL Cokemaking #5 Battery Collector Main Replacement Project
  • Replacement of x2 Collector Mains and x2 Crossover Mains
  • Replacement of 63 Standpipes
  • Replacement of East & West Raw Gas Bleeders
  • 8 Major Crane lifts (20T to 60T) utilising on site 500T and two 220T Hydraulic cranes
  • Pre work preparation of new Collector Mains and Crossover Mains
  • Fabrication, installation and testing of pipework

2. BSL #2 Blower Station, SAUP, Steam Asset Upgrade Project HP Steam and Services Packages
  • Preparation, fabrication, installation and testing of P11 HP Steam pipe work up to 500mm nominal bore and Schedule 80
  • Specialised welding techniques required for P11 material including pre and post heating of pipe work.
  • Removal of redundant pipe work and gas mains
  • Removal process included identification and removal of asbestos lagging / insulation
  • Considerable portion of work carried out in High temperature zones requiring fatigue management plans.
  • Installation of new pipe work required attention to details for “cut ins” to existing pipe
3. BSL Sinter Plant, Precipitator WGEP-3B Upgrade
  • Client request for WGE to be involved. Short lead and preparation time.
  • Pre work checks and repairs of new equipment to conform with QA guidelines
  • Removal of rooftop equipment and roofing
  • High frequency use of Tower Crane for removal and installation of equipment and materials.
  • Installation of scaffolding decks and swinging stages o undertake working at heights safely
  • Confined Space Procedures followed throughout project

4.BSL #5 Blast Furnace Reline, Casthouse Floors and Stockhouse Upgrades Casthouse
Casthouse
  • Upgrade of 3 Casthouse Floors
    • Remove and replace Main, Metal and Slag Troughs
    • Remove and fit redesigned Taphole Drills
    • Remove and upgrade Trough Cover Mechanisms
  • Upgrade of 3 Casthouse Floors
  • Install new Dedusting Ductwork System
Stockhouse
  • Replace all Conveyors and refit & calibrate belt weighers
  • Vibro feeder, bin and tripper repairs
  • Main Feed Conveyor (501) to the Blast Furnace top replaced.
5. BSL #4 Coke Ovens Quencher
  • Cooling Water Tower Foundation. A 6 x 9 m foundation with 6 steel driven piles constructed in the side of Coke Ovens rail line embankment.
  • Quencher Reconstruction. The existing coke quencher was extensively refurbished / overhauled and included
    • The manufacture of pre-cast concrete launders and wall panels.
    • Demolition of existing walls, launders and foundations. o Installation of pre-cast units in conjunction with cast-in situ foundations and launders. All to tight level & alignment tolerances with final grouting and watertight sealing.
    • All work undertaken on 24 x 7 critical shutdown conditions with interaction with mechanical / structural / pipe work crews working overhead and in close proximity
5.BSL Pulverised Coal Injection Plant. (PCI)
  • 15 m long x 7 m wide x 9 m deep vertical Conveyor foundation constructed 4 m below water table in coal wash fill and original swampy ground. Required braced sheet piling & ground water management.
  • Heavily reinforced machinery and building foundations totalling more than 2000 cubic metres with 2 pours in excess of 500 cubic metres.
